These
three elements were the catch cry of the Reformation – Sola gratia,
Sola fide,
Sola Christo.
Should
we be confused? Which one saves us? Is it Christ? Is it God’s grace? Is
it
faith? Answer? All three!
And
the
question is “How can that be?”
Very
simple. Here’s the parallel.
There
is only one God but he is made up of three persons in God the Father,
God the
Son and God the Holy Ghost. Not three Gods but one God with three
‘parts’.
So
then, there is one salvation but made up of three parts – God’s grace,
Christ,
and Christ’s faith.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and
that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Eph 2:8
Now, who’s
faith saves? It
is Christ and his faith, not our own.
Knowing
that
a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the
faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ,
that we might be justified by the faith
of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the
law
shall no flesh be justified. Gal 2:16
There we
have it – God’s grace, Christ and
Christ’s faith.
Three in
one
and one in three – one salvation with the three parts of grace, Christ
and
faith.
